At Xoomworks Technology, through our culture, we try to inspire employees to feel that their work has more meaning than being just a job. Right during the interview process, we find it helpful to detail such features as programmes designed to reinforce our company’s values, mission, vision, etc., and practices that show employees the value of their work for customers and/or society.

We regularly work towards lending a hand to:

  • HemiHelp (an organisation in London supporting children and young people with hemiplegia, and their families.)
    We help organize and participate in the HemiHelp Fun Run (an annual 10K and 3K in Victoria Park), help promote their events.
  • Familia Regasita (an NGO in Cluj-Napoca involved in helping families grow and get past their difficulties.)
    We organise a Shoebox project each December (gifts for the children from the Association) and an annual visit to our offices before Christmas to give them our gifts and celebrate together. We’ve also taken the kids to the movies, on day trips, and organised other fun activities with them.
  • and, Adopt a School (a program aiming to bring together the schools of major citites in Romania and the business environment in a way that enriches the learning processes in elementary and high schools.)
    A team of nine Xoomies volunteered and taught weekly classes introducing the children to some programming notions using the Scratch programing language, and had a lot of fun at the end of school Game Jam organised between several schools in Cluj-Napoca.

We’ve organized and/or attended several different charity events both for the larger public and within the company throughout each year of the firm’s existence, such as:

  • fundraisers and donations
  • e-auctions
  • a charity concert
  • bake sales and charity breakfasts
  • sports events
    charity runs – HemiHelp Fun Run, Royal Parks Half Marathon, Crosul Divelor, Brighton Marathon
    charity swim – Great North Swim
  • writing letters of encouragement for people in need of a pick-me-up (MoreLoveLetters)
  • visited nursing homes
  • cooked dinner for the less fortunate at local charity kitchens
  • helped Surrey Square Primary School by painting their many-story staircases and the redesign of their gardens, CASS Business School link up, and School playground work

We share information with employees and foster a culture of transparency, Xoomies are always asked to provide feedback and encouraged to pick up the phone or otherwise communicate with managers and senior managers. As mentioned in a previous blog post about Xoom culture, we help employees discover and develop their talents, challenge themselves professionally, manage their careers, and/or enhance their personal growth. We also have a very open policy about working from home and the office.

We have a very engaging work environment where fun culture starts with management, who lead with challenges, nights out, acknowledge anniversaries and achievements, and lend major support to events like Christmas and Summer parties, team nights out, team days and team building, but also internal training, product design sessions, hackathons and contests.

We, at Xoomworks Technology, believe that giving people an environment and culture in which they have the freedom to make an impact directly supports our impact on clients and therefore success.
