Working by the seaside is beginning to look like an annual thing for Xoomworks Technology.
In a blog post last year, we’ve briefly mentioned our Xoomies taking trips to work by the sea. For two weeks over a dozen of our developers built some of the most stand-out code of 2016 and 2017 on innovative tech projects.
With Summer knocking on our doors, this year, the working by the seaside trip was proposed, then organised to Sozopol, Bulgaria, an ancient seaside town on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast.
Xoomies and FOXes (Friends of Xoomworks) from both our Cluj-Napoca, Romania and Sofia, Bulgaria offices were invited to attend with plenty of time’s notice. People from a client of ours, the Financial Times in London, also joined in on the fun.
Once everyone signed up, HR searched and booked a house in that region. Xoomworks Technology took care of having a proper internet connection, vital to being able to work with all our clients located in different parts of the World.
All Xoomies needed to bring? Their laptop and swimsuits.
“Awesome experience – you combine an alternative way of working (in a sunny yard with vines around you) with team fun and getting to know your colleagues outside of the office.” Dimana Grigorova, UX Designer, Xoomworks Technology
Xoomies tell us it was a cool, relaxing, and great experience working by the seaside again for a week. Our Bulgarian Xoomies were great hosts to Romanian Xoomies arriving in the little town of Sozopol, getting people settled in, offering drinks, and on occasion driving people around. The house was great to work from either inside on the yard, and for a few days, they took their laptops to work from the beach bar.
“Third year in a row the tradition was kept alive! Xoomies and FOXes from Sofia, Cluj-Napoca and London found their summer office at the Bulgarian seaside. Who would not want to work and have fun with us… #bestplacestowork” Stefan Minchev, Engineering Director, Xoomworks Technology; Interim Technology Director, Financial Times Sofia
It was much fun. Xoomies experienced a different way of working, while they took full advantage of their free time and followed the FIFA World Cup, watched comedian’s shows together, chatted and got around to building new friendships.
They sunbathed on the beach, attended a few beach parties, went out to restaurants & bars to enjoy some great Bulgarian food. They played volleyball and other beach-side games, sat together overlooking the crystal blue waters, and overall enjoyed Summer vibes to the full while doing a bit of site-seeing.
We believe that giving people an environment and culture in which they have the freedom to make an impact directly supports our impact on clients and therefore success.
Here’s hoping we can take another trip like this again next year!
