Today four intrepid Xoomies completed one of the Great North Swim races in Lake Windermere. They are Anthony Baring, David Dolan, David Bone and Steven Saunders pictured below, and could pick from 250 metres, 1/2 a mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, 5k or a 10k. Xoomies competed last year as well, and this year chose the 2-mile version and completed it with some amazing times.
The Great North Swim is Europe’s biggest open water swimming event with around 10,000 participants who converge on Cumbria’s Lake District to take part in the Great North Swim around Windermere yearly.
Organisers have a tracker system so they are sure all the swimmers who go in the lake come out again. On a sunny day, the drop-out rate is less than 1% – rising to about 3% in windy weather.
So our Xoomies madness was for a good cause (and precaution was taken), to raise awareness and funding for different charities close to their hearts – Macmillan Cancer Support, and Alzheimer’s Society & Learning Disabilities & Autism. If you would like to show your support by way of a donation please click on one of the links.
We look forward to participating in future Great North Swim events as well – a few Xoomies are already planning on heading up to the sumptuous lakes for next year!
