Meet the Team – Paul Tempest, Service Delivery Manager

by | April 15, 2019

This month’s meet the team section welcomes Paul Tempest, Service Delivery Manager. Paul has been working at Xoomworks for more than a decade and he manages the Operational Procurement Support centre.

1. Tell us about your time/journey in Xoomworks

I joined Xoomworks back in 2002 as an Analyst working on a number of procurement projects and I would never have thought back then that I would still be here after almost 17 years. When I joined Xoomworks I was the youngest in the company, enjoying living in London and wanting to learn as much as I could. In the time I have been at Xoomworks, I have got married become a dad and I am now a very happy middle aged family man living in the countryside.

2. What do you like most about working at Xoomworks?

The people and culture are two very important factors. Working with people that I respect, enjoy spending time with, who are very good at their jobs and who I can learn from is key. Xoomworks has a very open and approachable culture, even the most senior people are always available for a chat or a beer.

With having two young children flexibility has been really been important to me, things like being able to work from home when needed. This flexibility is also instilled into how we work with our clients, our services and team deliver a flexible service so that our clients also see the benefits.

Opportunity to develop and learn is also very important. Not only have I continued to learn through out my time at Xoomworks but being able to help enable our team to also develop and grow has been very satisfying.

3. How has your role changed since joining Xoomworks?

My role has completely changed since I joined Xoomworks. I was originally working as an analyst on a number of procurement projects spending most of my time at our clients offices. After about 6 or 7 years I moved into what is now our Operational Procurement Support department and I have been working on growing our team and services ever since. I am now responsible for designing, setting up and governing all our ever growing procurement support services. I have learnt so much during my time at Xoomworks and continue to learn all the time, it is one of the reasons why I am still here.

4. Are there any projects that you are particularly fond of?

There a few projects that I remember fondly whilst I was working on consultancy projects the best ones all had a combination of learning a great deal, delivering great work and working with a number of great colleagues from the clients and Xoomworks.

Since I have been working on the support side there has been quite a varied number of projects from the first few we set up to our most recent new clients. I am very proud of developing and growing our team and services. It has been great to be able to create more opportunities for the team to take on more responsibilities and to see them delivering a great service.

5. Outside of work what do you love?

Outside of work my life is mostly kept busy with my family and friends. I have two sons who are still quite young but are growing up rapidly and are a lot of fun. As my kids are starting to get a bit older, my wife and I are just starting to get our lives back a little and we are trying to see more gigs, movies and generally going out. I try to see my friends as much as I can which tends to involve going out, food, playing poker badly and football. I also have a slight geeky side as I am a sucker for most Sci-Fi, gaming and very slowly trying to write a book.
