Financial Times in partnership with Xoomworks are establishing a research and development centre in Sofia, Bulgaria.

FT Core is a central part of the FT’s Product and Technology division – it is a platform that supports audience facing products such as and our print products which provide a broad range of news, comment, data and analysis to the growing community of internationally minded business people.

FT Core is responsible for the platforms that manage the content and metadata produced by our editorial teams, the data that is used across the business to access and understand critical insights, and the services we use to run our membership and subscription business.


Position Summary

The FT is looking for a seasoned Group Product Manager to lead on the development and delivery a vision and strategy for a key technical product area within FT Core.

As a Group Product Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development of products/services within the FT Core platform such as our content and metadata platform, our data intelligence platform or our membership (identity, access management, billing and payment) platform. You will synthesise user research and requirements from a disparate set of executive stakeholders into clear product goals, and you will work with your colleagues across engineering, design, and research to turn these goals into executable plans. You will regularly and clearly communicate the team’s progress back to these stakeholders, working closely with delivery leads and technical leadership to do so. This role will require you to be familiar with the evolving ways that customers (both internal and external) engage with FT Core products.

We expect that you are an experienced product manager with a deep understanding of customer-centered design and data driven decision making. You should have an interest in digital publishing and be able to communicate with engineers, designers, and other product managers, and be able to translate between these disciplines in order to ensure everyone is on the same page. You can quickly and confidently make decisions when it’s called for and use your exceptional communication skills (both written and oral) to develop healthy relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and fields. You are at ease with a remote working culture and understand how to support a geographically distributed team. You’re a respectful and empathetic teammate who is willing to go the extra mile for others, and you care about helping us create a diverse, inclusive workforce in addition to building amazing products.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

In this role you will…..

  • Be the voice of the customer, developing an in depth understanding of the way they interact with our products/services
  • Develop a vision and strategy that dovetails with the strategic goals of other areas of FT Core and the rest of the Product and Technology division.
  • Lead the prioritisation of the product backlogs in your remit, in line with the strategy
  • Take decisions based on data
  • Build and communicate your product roadmaps to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with stakeholders around the business
  • Coordinate developments undertaken by third parties
  • Define, track and analyse success metrics while feeding back outcomes into the product process
  • Track and analyse FT’s competitors while feeding industry ‘best practice’ into the product development process.


Person Specification

You must be execution focussed and results driven, easily converse with colleagues at all levels of the organisation, actively engage in technical discussions, understand high level technical architecture.


  • Extensive and deep product management experience with a track record of managing products at scale, using cutting-edge technologies, working across major projects, dealing with third parties and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the entire product lifecycle from insights/analysis, roadmap development, UX, UI and Data driven approaches
  • Proven record of delivering products through collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams
  • Experience producing strong business justifications
  • Have a proven track record of improving key business metrics
  • Experience with managing people and leading teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, a natural evangelist, in English
  • Highly developed and proven influencing and negotiation skills
  • Confident leading meetings and workshops
  • Experience working in an Agile environment including as a product owner
