When the world stopped 18 months ago, like all businesses, we had no idea how long the crisis would last or what real impact it would have. We did know that some of our most valuable client partnerships – those in the travel industry, for example, would need time to recover.
We made a leadership decision to switch our energies toward achieving a single, simple goal: “to make sure our people and our business stayed healthy”.
As we move towards the final quarter of 2021 and the world starts to get back to a certain kind of normal, we take a look at how that worked out for us. What did we achieve? And how did we manage to turn this year into one of the strongest ever?
Focus on the throw; the catch will take care of itself
We shifted all our attention and effort into understanding ourselves better. How do we do things? What could we do to improve? Why do we do what we do? What do we do really well?
We reorganised our expertise into practice areas to create knowledge nodes we could go to quickly to solve a client problem and share knowledge internally.
We now have five Practice Areas: Data, Agile Delivery, Front-end, QA, and User Experience & Product Ownership, led by some of our most talented people.
We built out our delivery structure, understanding where and how we created value for clients. Innovation and problem-solving lie at the heart of everything we do. As one of our Practice Leads put it: “Anything is possible. We just need to figure out how to make it happen”.We created a new management structure promoting some of our top talent into leadership roles. We are proud that 55% of these roles also happen to be women, which is well above average for a tech company.
We were already working remotely and collaboratively online before the pandemic. With global clients in sectors that have been able to innovate and accelerate their digital offerings during the crisis, we slipped seamlessly into working on 3 continents and in 5 different time zones.
Freedom to make an impact
When you focus on your people, inevitably, you need to understand the “Why?”
We know from employee and team feedback that being able to make a lasting impact on businesses and communities is one of the things that gets them out of bed in the morning.
Amongst the many interesting client projects we are working on this year, a few of them stand out. Two projects we know will have life-changing implications for millions of people around the world and a third one will transform an industry and reduce unnecessary waste.
Celebrating client anniversaries
This year we also celebrate the anniversaries of some of our longest client partnerships. We believe this is the result of our values-based OneTeam Approach where trust, behaviours, alignment and communication come before service level agreements.
As we hurtle towards 2022, we’ve started working with our clients on exciting plans to help them deliver new goals and a bright new vision for the post-crisis era – especially our friends in the travel industry, whom we have continued to support throughout the pandemic.
And because when you focus on the throw, the catch comes naturally; it turns out we continued to grow and even exceed our own expectations.
So far in 2021, we have onboarded over 50 talented people and we still have open opportunities for 25 more. To fill these roles, we rolled out an internal referral programme and recruitment campaign #Freedom to make your mark inspired by our own team photos of working life in lockdown.
Because without our people, their energy, their big ideas and relentless passion for their work, none of this would ever have been possible.
It really has been a year of impact.
