Xoomworks competes in Royal Parks Half Marathon 2009 In 2009 a team of 10 Xoomworks employees entered the Corporate Team Challenge as part of the Royal Parks half marathon. For six of our employees this meant starting their running career from scratch. With full support from some of the senior members of Xoomworks (all seasoned runners) a 12 week training plan was devised to get our novices into shape. Training started in August and the guys could regularly be seen running up and down the Thames paths during their lunch breaks. The team chose Great Ormond Street Hospital (http://www.gosh.org/) as its worthwhile charity and several fund-raising events were held including an epic quiz night where we learnt some amazing facts about the company directors. After a few injury scares and several pairs of trainers the team assembled on October 11th for the event. Once again Hyde Park was bathed in glorious sunshine and the runners took their places in the 15000 strong crowd. The team all finished with many inside the magical 2 hours for a beginner. Overall Xoomworks finished an impressive 44th in the Corporate Challenge ahead of illustrious competitors such as ‘The Conservative Party’ and ‘The Caravan Club of Great Britain’. The team, with great support from colleagues and family, also succeeded in raising over £4000 for charity. |
