Xoomworks joins Bendrigg for their Summer 10km Challenge
On a beautifully cold and wet Saturday afternoon the Xoomworks community was out in force supporting Bendrigg Trust (one of our key charity partners) during their fantastic summer fete with the climax being their 10km run.
Preparation for the run had come in all shapes and sizes (yes this is a friendly way of saying that some folk rocked up lucky enough to have remembered their trainers). Some took it more seriously than others but thankfully James and his friends stepped-up and wore sensible outfits:
For others it was their first ever 10km event and anyone who has ever run it will know that they don't lie when they call the last half a mile "Heartbreak Hill". So well done to those newbies but especially to family friend Terry Ellis:
If you want to see how the Xoomie crew did this year then the results are posted on Bendrigg's website: http://www.bendrigg.org.uk/race-results-2012.pdf
The event itself was also an opportunity for many of us to see first hand the brilliant work done by Lynne and the team at Bendrigg. The facility is uniquely situated in the open countryside between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales and the perfect location to provide outward bound opportunities for the disabled and also the disadvantaged. Speaking to Lynne and Trevor it was clear just how valuable the support is (however small) from sponsors and trustees. So it was also great to know that the Xoomworks community had also been able to raise already in the region of £3000 for Bendrigg so far this year. A big thank you to all our communities friends who have sponsored us so far. If you wish to do so please click here Xoomworks Fundraising Site 2012
After a great day and an equally great evening in one of the delightful local pubs, sharing running tales, it was time to bunk down in one of Bendrigg's on-site lodges:
