David Norris Senior Technical Analyst When did you join Xoomworks? September 2009
What does a Senior technical Analyst at Xoomworks do? I work on the Managed Services desk as an analyst – my current duties revolve around either technical work (e.g. analyzing issues, coding fixes and change requests) or client-facing responsibilities (e.g. client meetings and general contact). We are also responsible for some in-house maintenance and administration activities. What did you do before you came to Xoomworks? I worked in various IT support roles, including supporting the CAD platform for the Metropolitan Police (the system that logs 999 calls). What do you love about your role? I do love a puzzle to solve, and so Xoomworks gifts me with interesting things to do all the time. Because of the unique relationship we have with nearly all of our clients, our contact and work with them isn’t always limited to the service defined in the contract, which does bring new challenges but also new experiences to learn. Whilst I work mostly on Ariba Buyer (an e-procurement application), the issues I have had to solve have deepened my understanding of many of the underlying principles around modern computing. What is your favourite book/film? My favourite book series is the Chronicles of Thomas Convenant – they are a great set of fantasy novels, and Thomas Covenant is the best anti-hero I have ever read. Why did you choose Xoomworks?
I have worked for large multinational corporations before Xoomworks, so the quality that really clinched it for me was the friendly, family-like atmosphere Xoomworks maintains – I’ve made more friends in this job than in any other. That, and we do love a good biscuit run on a Friday! Favourite Xoomworks event? My favourite event must be the 10th Anniversary party held in 2010 – excellent venue, lovely food, and the ability to drink and gamble with someone else’s money. Only a couple of supermodels away from a perfect party. J What is the most beautiful song in the world?
I’m not sure if I could choose just one, so here’s my top three:
