E-sourcing: an online shopping tool accessed through an internet browser whether on a desktop PC, laptop or PDA. This enables requisitions to be raised on the spot and forwarded instantly for approval and the placing of an order.
Strategic sourcing: shopping carts completed through the e-sourcing tool can be managed and sourced through a preferred vendor list. The order can then be turned into a purchase order, a request-for-quote or a contract with a supplier. A reverse auction can also be initiated, allowing suppliers to quote their prices competitively.
Supplier enablement and collaboration: allows suppliers to view orders, receipts and invoices, reducing the time needed to process payments and vastly reduce the chances of error. SRM enables vendors to complete an online evaluation form to be viewed by the procurement organisation who may decide to place the supplier on a preferred list.
Catalogue management: typically enables employees to evaluate millions of items before placing an order. This can be achieved through internal hosted catalogues, punch-out into vendors’ catalogues or through catalogues hosted and maintained by a third party.
