Great North Swim 2014

On Saturday 14th June 2014 Anthony, Simon, David, Dave and Xoomie Alumni Steve all gathered for this years Great North Swim in the wonderful surrounds of the English Lake District.

Here Dave reflects upon his swim and his charity fundraising efforts:

Just wanted to say a thank you for your donation to the Nation Autistic Society as part of my Great North Swim.

As you may have seen on Facebook I competed the swim in 37min and 15secs which isn’t too bad considering that I found myself swimming to the shore on a couple of occasions. I am also relived to tell you I did not encounter any large pike or other sports fish. There were a variety of fists, elbows and feet to deal with.

The water was lovely and “warm” at 17oC, which seems quite pleasant until I remember the swimming pool is normally about 25oC.

So thanks again and so far (the page is still open until September(!?!)) you helped me raise £1,710, so with the gift aid, the charity got £2,121.50, which is fantastic!
Cheers,
Dave

And ‘Chest-Out’ Simon Hurst also looks back on his swim (and his fantastic sub 30 minute time)

This was my first Great North Swim but it definitely won’t be my last. What an amazing event! I managed a sub 30 min mile at 29 mins 11 secs and am very proud of that indeed.

I swam for the British Heart Foundation and have so far raised over £300 with gift aid. The page is still open here if you’d like to make a cheeky last minute donation.

Our illustrious Finance Director Anthony loved every second of this team-building challenge. Here he happily reflects on the Windermere experience and his charity:

Wonderful event with great company and a challenging goal for me personally – my first open water swim race and I trained non-stop for six months to make sure I kept up with my young colleague.

I raised a modest £200 with gift aid for Mind so if you can dig out a few more quid to donate, that would be perfect. Click here for charity link:

Looking forward to next year, a long distance and a faster time and bringing families up as well.
